It’s time to pause 🌎🌱 It’s time to appr It’s time to pause 🌎🌱

It’s time to appreciate our planet and think about the impact we make, both in our daily routines and work.

As a food content creator, I’m on a journey to embrace sustainability in my work.

I’ll be real with you, I’m not perfect 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s about finding the delicate balance between creativity and being mindful of our beautiful planet.

One of the key areas I’ve been focusing on in the past year is minimising waste.

Gone are the days of tossing unused ingredients 🥬🍅

Now, I carefully plan my shoots to ensure every ingredient has a purpose.

And you know what keeps me accountable? My wonderful sister!

When it comes to props 🍽️ , I’ve made some changes too.

No more buying one-time-use items that end up in the landfill.

Instead, I opt for versatile props that can be used across different sets, giving them a chance to shine time and time again.

I love a good thrift shop find ✨

Not only does it add character to my photos and videos, but it also reduces the demand for new products, contributing to a more sustainable future.

How about you?

What changes are you making to integrate sustainability into your daily life and or work? 🌱✨

Let’s take a moment to reflect on our impact and consider the positive difference we can make.

Happy Earth Day 🌍

Sand Apricot-Vine (Mavhungo) 🍊 On my recent tr Sand Apricot-Vine (Mavhungo) 🍊

On my recent trip to my home town, there was one thing I was after,

The Sand Apricot-vine aka mavhungo fruit.

It had been years since I last had the chance to indulge in this indigenous fruit.

The Muvhungo tree is more than just a plant; it’s a symbol of guidance for the Venda people.

The tree’s fruits serve as an indicator of abundance or scarcity, guiding the Venda people’s expectations for the upcoming harvest season 🌾

If the fruits are plenty, it signals a bountiful harvest and if scarce it means a challenging season with scarce food for the year ahead.

There’s so much more!

For the full article on the Sand Apricot-Vine and its cultural significance in Venda, South Africa, click the link in my bio.

♡ I’d love to hear from you, share your memories and thoughts in the comments!

Have you tried Sand Apricot vine? 🍑

Happy Birthday to me✨thank you Lord for another Happy Birthday to me✨thank you Lord for another year 🙏🏽🎉
I couldn’t afford to miss the chance again. To I couldn’t afford to miss the chance again.

To witness, touch, and breathe in the presence of the mighty baobab tree 🌳✨

Last year, on my journey to Limpopo, I drove past numerous baobab trees lining the roadside. I promised myself a proper visit, but regrettably, I missed the opportunity to return.

This year, as I returned to Limpopo, the moment I spotted the iconic baobab, I made sure to stop and embrace this tree of life.

As I walked to stand in its shade, the tree’s trunk and its branches seemed to tell a story of resilience, strength and ancient wisdom. Its branches reached out to me like welcoming arms, transporting me back to my childhood days.

Did you know that the baobab fruit has more vitamin C than oranges and more calcium than milk? It truly stands as a nutritional powerhouse!

In the heart of my native Venda culture, the baobab fruit, fondly known as “mbuyu,” is truly special. Its rich uses have been woven into the fabric of our traditions, serving to nourish us and to connect us to the land.

In my latest blog article, I write about the extraordinary benefits of the baobab fruit, unravelling its timeless wisdom that has been passed down through generations along with the profound insights & the cultural significance of my tribe.

Ever since I arrived in Venda, I have been immerse Ever since I arrived in Venda, I have been immersed in the rich culture and traditions of my tribe, trying out different indigenous foods that I grew up with.

It’s been a joy reconnecting with my food in this way, and rediscovering the flavours that are so familiar and comforting to me.

But out of all the dishes, there’s one that stands out above the rest: delele, also known as horn-fruited jute, our version of okra🌿

There’s just something about the way it tastes, the way it feels in my mouth, that makes it my absolute favourite. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.

My dear grandmother, bless her soul, has cooked delele for me five times since I got here.

Delele is more than just a vegetable. It is a medicine, as my grandmother would say.

The Vendas have used it for centuries to treat all sorts of ailments, from coughs, colds to digestive issues.

And it’s not hard to see why - just one bite of this delicious greenery, and you can feel its restorative powers.

We cook it with water, adding bicarbonate soda to soften the leaves, tomatoes and other wild vegetables to create a variety of taste and textures.

It’s a simple but magical recipe, and one that I will always treasure.

I was exploring of the townships, when i saw this I was exploring of the townships, when i saw this little fast food shop. I was welcomed by the wonderful aroma of freshly cooked chips 🍟

I couldn't resist, I had to stop and get some. They were incredible 😍

I noticed the light hitting the chips in the most perfect way. Without hesitation, I took out my camera and started snapping away, capturing the delightful chips in all their glory.

It was a simple shoot, with no backdrops or fancy equipment - just chips and the warm natural light.

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the idea of perfection, the perfect location, the perfect lighting, the perfect props that we forget that the most stunning moments can be found in the ordinary.

Whenever I find myself stressing about the details, I remember these humble chips and I remind myself that sometimes, all we need to create something beautiful is to make use of what we have.

I’ll be honest, as a food content creator, I som I’ll be honest, as a food content creator, I sometimes find myself stuck and out of ideas to create.

When this happens, I turn to my favourite foods for inspiration. Whether it's coming up with a new recipe or trying out different food photography techniques, chocolate 🍫 always seems to do the trick for me.

So, what about you? What are your favourite foods to turn to when you need a little boost of creativity? ✨
