- 500 g Sweet potatoes about 2 medium 3 cup Peeled or skin-on, cut into wedges or fries
- 1 tbsp Olive oil 15 ml Helps crisp the potatoes
- ½ tsp Smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp Onion powder
- ¼ tsp Garlic powder
- ½ tsp Salt
Wash and peel the sweet potatoes (optional). Cut the sweet potatoes into even wedges or cubes, about 1.5–2 cm thick. Even cuts help them cook evenly and get that crispy and golden brown finish.
Place the sweet potatoes in a bowl. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle over paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Toss to coat — make sure every piece gets covered in seasoning.
Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 3 minutes. Preheating helps air fry the potatoes evenly and gives that perfect crispy exterior.
Arrange the fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer, don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket, or you’ll make the fries soggy.
Air fry at 190°C (375°F) for 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway so the air can circulate and cook air fryer sweet potato fries evenly.Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fries in batches.
Once your fries are crispy and golden, remove and sprinkle a bit more paprika or salt if you like. Serve warm with your favourite dipping sauce.
- To get that crispy air fryer sweet potato texture, we love using the firmer, creamier varieties of sweet potatoes often found in African markets. They hold their shape beautifully and give that perfect golden edge.
- If you soak them before cooking, pat dry to remove excess starch, this helps your sweet potato fries are perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside.
- However, the store-bought soft ones also work just fine! They might cook a little faster, so keep an eye on the cooking time and adjust based on the size of your air fryer. Either way, you’ll get fries that are golden, tender, and full of natural sweetness.
- Sweet potato fries take just minutes to air fry, making them an easy side for air fryer chicken, wraps, or salads.
