How to make guacamole

  • Prepare the Avocados: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl. Use a fork or mortar and pestle to mash the avocado to chunky or smooth, your choice.
  • Add the Fresh Ingredients: Mix in the onion, diced tomato, chilli, and garlic. Mix gently to combine.
  • Season and Flavour: Add lime juice and salt, black pepper, and coriander and lime. Season to taste — more chilli for spice, more lime juicefor zest.
  • Serve and enjoy: Transfer to a serving bowl and serve guacamole right away. Dip with tortilla chips, spoon over tacos, or spread it on toast.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container or a layer of plastic wrap directly to prevent oxidation for up to 2 days. If it darkens slightly, stir before serving, it’s still perfectly fine.
For a smoky flavour, add a pinch of smoked paprika or roast the chilli before adding it in.
You can also substitute lemon with lime juice if needed.
If your avocados for this recipe aren’t soft yet, place avocados in a paper bag with a banana to ripen faster.
