What’s your favourite combination?
One of mine has to be this apple and cinnamon. It’s warm, inviting and utterly delicious. There’s something about the aroma of cinnamon that instantly transports me back to cosy winters by the fireplace. And when you pair it with the crisp sweetness of apple, it’s a match made in foodie heaven. Trust me, you won’t be able to resist its allure.
But what if I told you there’s a way to enjoy this delectable combination even when life gets busy? The perfect solution – apple cinnamon overnight oats. It’s a delightful twist on a classic, bringing together the richness of oats, the freshness of apples, and the comforting warmth of cinnamon.
Preparing this heavenly overnight oatmeal couldn’t be easier. The night before, combine rolled oats, almond milk, and a sprinkle of cinnamon in a mason jar. Give it a good stir and let it rest in the refrigerator overnight. As you sleep, the oats will absorb the flavours, resulting in a creamy, dreamy breakfast waiting for you in the morning.
As the sun rises, you grab the jar from the fridge and take a spoonful. Add a generous spoonful of apple sauce. The soft chewiness of the oats contrasts perfectly with the crisp and saucy bite of the apples, while the cinnamon adds a touch of magic to every mouthful. It’s like a symphony of flavours dancing on your palate, leaving you wanting more.
The Beauty of Apple and Cinnamon
Not only does this combination taste amazing, but it also provides a plethora of health benefits. Apples are packed with fibre, which helps to keep you feeling full and satisfied throughout the morning.
Most of the apple’s nutritious goodness is loaded with peels, which is why I never peel the skin off. Apple peels contain a powerful antioxidant called quercetin which helps to protect your cells from the damage of free radicals. Free radicals are unstable chemicals that cause damage to healthy cells in the body and can, therefore, lead to the development of various diseases in the body. They are unavoidable as they are introduced to the body by breathing and eating.
Therefore, it is important to always include foods that are high in antioxidants in your diet. I personally love to include apples as part of my breakfast options because they are easily available and inexpensive to buy.
Cinnamon, on the other hand, has been shown to have antioxidant properties and can help to regulate blood sugar levels. So not only will you be indulging in a delectable treat, but you’ll also be doing your body a favour.
