Easy Creamy Baobab Latte
Growing up in Venda, the baobab fruit was a familiar and cherished part of my childhood. Its rough exterior concealed a velvety white pulp bursting with a tantalising mix of citrus and tropical flavours. As kids, my cousins and I would eagerly indulge in the tangy sweetness of baobab powder, savouring every moment as it danced on our tongues. Little did I know that this beloved fruit would one day take on a whole new form, one that would reconnect me with cherished memories and my homeland in a new way.
Life led me away from Venda, to a different country far from the baobab trees of my youth until recently. It was during a conversation with a dear friend that the dormant connection with baobab was rekindled. As we shared our lives and recent discoveries, she casually mentioned that she was enjoying a soothing cup of baobab tea.
Baobab… in tea? It took me by surprise! How had I never considered this before?
Intrigued, I decided to try the baobab latte. This is a new and exciting way of connecting with the ancient fruit that has accompanied me throughout my childhood. Baobab latte, a blend of baobab powder, steamed milk, and a hint of sweetness. The idea of incorporating this ingredient into a warm and creamy comforting drink truly gives me joy. and I hope it excites you as much as it does to me.
About Baobab
I’ve spent hours learning about this superfood that comes from the “tree of life,”. It is one has been cherished and has a fascinating history deeply rooted in African culture including my native tribe, Venda. The baobab tree, scientifically known as Adansonia, is native to the African continent and has been a vital part of African communities for centuries. These majestic trees can live for thousands of years and are known for their enormous size and distinctive bottle-shaped trunks.
The baobab fruit itself is a true marvel. It grows on the branches of the baobab tree and resembles a large, oblong gourd. When cracked open, the fruit reveals a dry, powdery pulp that is packed with nutrients. The pulp has a tangy, citrusy flavour, making it a versatile ingredient.
