I just love the taste of the matcha and the fact that it is packed with nutrients. Matcha green tea is literally ground-up tea leaves. It has been used for centuries to make tea using the whole leaf as opposed to normal teas where the tea bags are soaked in hot water.
Does matcha give you energy?
Using matcha green tea is a great way to experience the rich taste as well as the health benefits compared to when just soaking the bag to infuse the tea. Half a teaspoon of matcha green tea provides more antioxidants than normal green tea. Let me explain, antioxidants are powerful compounds that help to prevent the oxidation of other molecules in the body known as free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that are created naturally by our body through the food we eat. They are also created when we are exposed to toxins in the environment such as pesticides.
The free radicals always outnumber the antioxidants in our bodies, because our bodies are constantly exposed to them. It is, therefore, necessary to load up with external antioxidants to increase the level of antioxidants for optimum health.
Cacao
Cacao is a superfood rich in minerals such as zinc, potassium, and magnesium. It contains a molecule called anandamide, a natural euphoric compound which improves your mood by helping your brain to release serotonin levels in the brain. It is also good for your brain health because it contains components called flavanol which boosts your memory and learning. I talk more about the benefits of cacao in the chocolate hazelnut recipe.
